Joanne's Bio
An entrepreneur, financial educator and journalist, Joanne is author of several books, articles and products, including the award-winning Stock Market Pie: Grandma Helps Emily Make a Million, the Find Your Money Personality booklet, and the new Entrepreneur Extraordinaire: Grandpa Helps Emily Build a Business.

Joanne writes the Money Godmother® blog, and often speaks to youth, parents, and educators about managing money to create wealth and about entrepreneurship. Audiences appreciate her ability to make a complex subject understandable and fun for beginners. And, they become inspired.

As chair of Money Smart Week Iowa, Joanne has developed a unique, statewide perspective and has a handle on what hundreds of organizations are doing for financial literacy. Being an officer and board member for Iowa JumpStart and in the classroom helps Joanne see what teachers need to provide better financial education for their students. As mother of three, Joanne has personal down-to-earth experience and knows what works with kids too.

After launching her first business at 25, Joanne has since created a variety of new products, helped other entrepreneurs get started, and developed financial education programming in local and national venues. In addition to delivering communications products to clients, she lends expertise as a board member for the Iowa Jump$tart Coalition and other community organizations and foundations.

Joanne initiated Money Smart Week for Iowa, was a founding member of Iowa Enterprise Network and The Center for Financial Success, and has been recognized as SBA’s Midwest Home-Based Business Advocate of the Year.

She began her writing career on the staff of a weekly agribusiness journal for Miller Publishing in Minneapolis, after earning her B.S. in journalism and consumer economics from Iowa State University.
